Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle, resulting in the exit of two key ministers from the Federal Executive Council (FEC) and the appointment of new replacements aimed at strengthening economic governance.
In an official statement issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume confirmed that the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, have been directed to step down.
Edun is to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who has now been elevated to the position of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele previously served as Minister of State in the ministry.
For the Housing and Urban Development Ministry, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named ministerial nominee and minister-designate, pending the completion of necessary processes.
The directive also mandates Dangiwa to transfer responsibilities to the Minister of State within the ministry, while all handover procedures are expected to be concluded on or before April 23, 2026.
Akume explained that the reshuffle is part of efforts by the Tinubu administration to enhance cohesion within the cabinet and improve policy delivery, particularly in driving economic reforms under the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“The changes are aimed at strengthening synergy in governance and ensuring more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians,” the SGF stated.
He further noted that the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in effecting the changes.
President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation and wished them success in their future endeavours, while assuring that efforts to reinvigorate the cabinet would remain ongoing.
